La petite histoire de La Pichouline

La Pichouline -

the cottage that has been the home of honeymooners, families and intrepid travellers for many years now - was a local ruin that was left untouched for decades. Sitting on land once owned by French royalty, its restoration to the cosy home it is today has been a resurrection of something special in Provençal history.

Every stone of the cottage was from the original ruin. It was a labour of love by a local architect by the name of Saccaggi; a man who restored monasteries and thus added a reverant touch to every building he worked on. This is evident in the small finishes and beautiful craftsmanship that endow this cottage. This was the only house Saccaggi ever built.

After two years of rebuilding, it seemed only right that it should be Saccaggi who should christen the home he had so lovingly built. He chose 'La Pichouline', the name it still carries today, as he could think of no better way to describe this cottage than 'small and perfect.'

About the Owner, Pamela Lowther

Welcome to La Pichouline.

I am a New Zealander who spent many years in the UK before falling in love with Provence where I have lived happily for the past 22 years.

Living in the adjoining property, I stumbled across the ruin quite by chance when looking for land for my horses and, instantly enchanted, immediately wrote to the Count to ask permission to buy the land.

A couple of years later, and on the condition that Saccaggi would be the architect, I was granted permission to rebuild the ruin using the old stones and materials.

Over the years, this cottage has been home and haven to people from all over the world and all walks of life. It is a special place to come, breathe and be. It carries many stories in its walls; I hope it might be a place for a new leaf or new chapter in your story too.
